Halloween Vampire’s Blood Punch

You can make this  non-alcoholic for the younger vampires in your cave, and add some of the booze of your choice for the more ‘mature’ ones! My suggestion? 2 punch bowls, one with and one without — so make several batches of this and drink your fill until next Halloween but let someone else fly your guests home on their sober-high-flying broomstick!

Vampire’s Blood Punch

  • 2 oz. Cinnamon Red Hots candies (Hot Tamales don’t work because of their centers)
  • 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 16 oz. cranberry juice
  • 12 oz. ginger ale

Dissolve the Cinnamon Red Hots in boiling water. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. There should be a pinkish syrup with no pieces in it.

In a 1/2 gallon container, combine cranberry juice and ginger ale. Add cinnamon syrup and stir. Pour into punch bowl.

Serves 6-8

Tip from the Toque: Prepare an ice ring by making another half of recipe and pouring half of that into a ring mold. Partially freeze until slushy. Push red cherries, red grapes, or clean plastic spiders or other trinkets into the partially set ice ring, then carefully fill mold with the remainder of the half batch. Freeze until solid. Unmold by running a little hot water from the sink around the mold and float the mold, decorated side up, to serve. It won’t dilute the beverage and will keep it cold.
